How do I get to my destiny?
Destiny, purpose, calling, whatever you want to call it. Trying to find your way to it can be down right frustrating. If you are anything like me. There is a vision in your heart of who you are, and where you are supposed to be but the distance between that vision and your reality seems like an impossibility. Man if that was not the story of my life.
I was never the person that knew what I wanted to do with my life. I never had a clear vision of who I wanted to be. Everyone else was graduating high school with a plan and I was graduating with a huge question mark. What do you want to be? I don’t know. What do you want to do? I don’t know. What do you see yourself doing in your future? I don’t know. I honestly did not have an answer for any of those questions, and I couldn’t stand it.
I am good at doing hair but hate doing other people’s hair so I thought maybe that is the answer, wrong. I loved dancing while I was in high school so I thought maybe that was the answer, wrong. I love helping people so maybe human services is the answer. Some how I even talked myself into believing that fashion was the answer which is just laughable. Maybe a degree in leadership would be exactly what I was looking for.
If you can’t tell, I was confused and completely all over the place. All I knew is that time was not waiting on me and I still had no clue what I was supposed to be doing with my life. So after years of debt and failed attempts of trying to figure things out on my own I finally threw up my white flag and decided to surrender it all to God. Lord what was I created for? What have you called me to do? I was searching all these places for my created destiny but somehow forgot to stop and ask the person who actually created my destiny in the first place. You would think that would have been my first stop but not seeking God first is a mistake that we all often make.
Okay, so now I have asked my dad (I call God dad) about what I am supposed to be doing with my life and you know what. He answered me. He always does though, sometimes we miss it in our own ignorance but he always answers like the loving father that he is. Not only did he answer but he also brought to my remembrance a time when he told me what he had called me to do but due to my own selfishness I wanted nothing to do with it.
Here I was strapped with purpose and surrounded by circumstances. I now am having visions and dreams of all that I desire to be except it seems too far away. It was like trading one frustration for another. One question for another. Lord how in the world am I supposed to get from here to what seems to be all the way over there. Again, like the faithful father he is, he answered me.
I know your purpose and I know the way. That was his answer. In other words if you will just trust me I will get you to the destination. Whelp, my next concern was what if I messed up. What if I missed any opportunity or made a wrong turn on the road to destiny, could it be possible that I missed the opportunity for purpose? It doesn’t matter if you made a wrong turn. Your heavenly father is better than the best GPS system in the world at making sure your wrong turn still leads you to the right place.
Not only did my dad give me an answer but he put me in remembrance of the story of Joseph as a reminder. God gave Joseph a dream. Not just any little dream but a dream of being a ruler. His brothers were not fond of this dream and were also jealous of Joseph, so they tried to get rid of him (and you thought you had haters).
Joseph was sold as a slave. He ended up being an overseer of his masters house. Well that seemed easy enough he had a dream and made it right to the destination, or so it seems. Joseph turns down advances from his masters wife and ends up being accused of trying to have sex with her. As a result he was thrown in jail. Accused of something he did not do and now thrown in jail. If that doesn’t seem like a detour on the road to destiny I don’t know what does. Through the love and favor of God, Joseph ended up with an even higher position with his master, the pharaoh than before. Not only was he overseer of his masers house. He was ruler over all the land of Egypt. The only person greater than Joseph was the pharaoh himself. He was now literally living his dream. Regardless of the detours and wrong turns God made sure that Joseph still reached his correct destination. I am confident that he will do the same for me and you.
If you are at all in doubt about your destiny or how to get to the dream that is in your heart. I encourage you to seek your heavenly Father, who is the creator of your destiny. He knows your purpose and he knows how to get you there. It doesn’t matter about mistakes and wrong turns. Just trust him and he will get you there. You are never to far down a wrong road for God to recalculate your path and get you back on track.
I encourage you to read the story of Joseph yourself starting in Genesis 37
I hope this this helped you. Trust God and be blessed. Comment…share..and most importantly BELIEVE!
